Shintomiza (進富座) is an art-house independent theater in Ise. It is not only the sole independent movie theater in the area, but also in the prefecture and even draws a decent crowd (of movie buffs) from places like Nagoya and Osaka. It is located in a small building that is a short walk from Miyamachi Station.

Movies from all over the world in a variety of languages are shown at the theater. The schedule is only available in Japanese however next to each movie is what language it's in.

The theater's name is a kanji play-on-words based on the famous Tokyo Kabuki theater 新富座, also pronounced as Shintomiza.

Directions

By Train

Kintetsu

From Miyamachi (宮町) Station - Kintetsu Yamada Line, it's about a 5 minute walk south. Leave from the station's main entrance, cross the parking lot, and turn left on the road. You should soon cross a set of train tracks. Cross the small road that runs right along the train tracks, then turn left at the next intersection (there is a tobacco shop at this intersection). The theater is down this street a bit on the right-hand.

JR

From Yamada-Kamiguchi (山田上口) Station - JR Sangū Line, it's about a 10 minute walk east. When you leave the station, turn left onto the road right in front of the station. Follow this road for about 10 minute and the theater will be on the right-hand side.

By Car

It's just off of Route 37 in Ise. After crossing the Miya-gawa (over Watarai-bashi), turn left at the third stoplight (Uraguchi intersection). Follow the street for a short ways until it dead ends right in front of JR Yamada-Kamiguchi Station, turn right at the dead end. Go down this street for about 400 meters and theater will be on your right.
