LaLa Square (ララスクエア四日市), more commonly known as the Yokkaichi Apita, is a major department store in downtown Yokkaichi. It is located very close to Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station and is arguably the most train-accessible major shopping center in all of Mie, making it a popular destination for the many car-less residents of northern Mie.

It was opened in 1991 as a Matsuzaka-ya department store, but was completely closed in the early 2000's, renovated, and "refreshed" as LaLa Square / Yokkaichi Apita in 2005.

Facilities

LaLa Square contains six floors.

Shops

  • Apita
The largest Apita in all of Mie, takes up the first 3 floors of the building including a very nice grocery store on the first floor. Clothing and various goods are available on the other floors.
  • Miyawaki Shoten (宮脇書店) - 4F
    Decent-sized book store
  • Seria - 4F
    Large-scale 100 yen shop
  • Big - 4F
    Music, movies, and media
  • Thank You Mart - 4F
    Used clothing and assorted goods

Restaurants

  • Starbucks
Right at the entrance. Fairly spacious, though usually crowded. You'll often find at least one of your fellow gaijin here.
  • Papageno
Italian buffet. Pretty tasty, especially during the lunch and dinner hours when it's busier and the buffet food is fresher.
  • Tokubei Sushi (にぎりの徳兵衛 nigiri no tokubee)
Tasty conveyor belt sushi, a cut above the standard ¥105 ones in both quality and price
  • Saint Marc's
    Bread and croissants
  • Wakashachiya (若鯱家)
    Udon and some rice bowls
  • Dipper Dan's
    Crepes and gelato
  • Mister Donuts
  • Kentucky Fried Chicken

Entertainment

  • Movie Theater - 6F
9 screens. Check link above for schedule and discounts.
  • Amusement Park - 5F
Full-size arcade, one of the biggest standard arcades in Mie. Games are changed in and out quite frequently, but there's always a good selection.

Hours

  • Restaurants and grocery store (1F) - 10:00~22:00
  • Stores and arcade (2F~5F) - 10:00~21:00

Note: Certain specialty stores may close earlier

Directions

By Train

From Kintetsu Yokkaichi Station, it's about a two minute walk. Take the north exit from the station and head left at the dead end where the Kintetsu Book Center is. After this you'll pass a bunch of restaurants as well as a hotel and then come to a pedestrian crossing. LaLa Square is the large building just on the other side of that crossing.
