The AJET Welcome Beach Party is an annual event held in August each year at Kō Beach in Shima, usually the first weekend after the arrival of Group B. It gets most of the incoming JETs in Mie on the same beach for a full day and many recontacting JETs are there as well as many of them are interested in meeting the new JETs.

Train Times - 2012 Schedule

Though any number of trains can get you to Ugata Station by 10:45am, each year a big group of JETs all take the same train to Shima. Those who would like to ride down with a bunch of other JETs should take the following train.

If your station is not listed, please contact an RA or AJET member and they will figure out what time you need to be at your nearest station.

Coming from the north (Nagoya Line)

You will be riding a Kintetsu express train bound for Matsusaka (松阪).

• Kuwana: 08:03 (If coming from the Hokusei Line, be on the train leaving Sohara at 07:06. There is a train at 7:21, but it only gives you 6 minutes to walk from Nishikuwana station and then buy a ticket and then get on, so take the earlier train if you think you might have trouble making the train from Kuwana on time.)
• Kintetsutomida: 08:10
• Kintetsuyokkaichi: 08:16 (If coming from the Yunoyama Line, be on the train leaving Nakakomono at 07:43. Wait for the second express train--the first goes to Toba--that goes to Matsusaka. The first express train goes directly to Toba, and although you could continue on to Ugata, you'll get there at 10:05, which is well before the bus at 10:50, and you'll be sitting and waiting over 20 minutes for everyone else)
• Shiohama: 08:24
• Isewakamatsu: 08:33 (If coming from the Suzuka Line, be on the train leaving Hiratachō at 08:15)
• Shiroko: 08:38
• Edobashi: 08:47
• Tsu: 08:49 (If coming from JR via Kameyama, be on the train leaving Kameyama at 08:23. You have 4 minutes to go up, over and down to the Kintetsu platform, which is plenty, but you won't have time to go out and buy a ticket. You can pay upon arrival at Ugata station.)
• Tsu-Shinmachi: 08:52
• Hisai: 08:57
• Isenakagawa: arrives at 09:01 (Get off here and transfer to an express train bound for Ujiyamada (宇治山田) that leaves Isenakagawa at 9:05. Yes, the train you were just on goes one more stop to Matsusaka, but the transfer there is only 1 minute, and if you are lugging a lot of stuff, it's just not worth it. You'll get to Ugata station at the same time anyway.)
• Matsusaka: 09:13 (Note to those living in Matsusaka. You'd more likely want to catch the 9:10 local that goes all the way to Ugata station with no transfers. Everyone else will meet you on that train at Ujiyamada)
• Iseshi: 09:27 (Those getting on at this station should wait until 9:41 and board the local train bound for Kashikojima. Everyone else will change to this local train at the next station, Ujiyamada)
• Ujiyamada: arrives at 09:29 (Get off here for a local train bound for Kashikojima (賢島) that leaves Ujiyamada at 9:43. Everyone will ride this train all the way to Ugata station and arrive at 10:31. Those getting on here, please get on the local train at 9:43)
• Isuzugawa: 09:46
• Toba: 09:58
• Shimaakasaki: 10:04
• Shimaisobe: 10:24
• Ugata (arrival): 10:31

Coming from the west (Osaka Line)

You will be riding a Kintetsu express train bound for Ujiyamada (宇治山田), and will change to a local train bound for Kashikojima (賢島) at Ujiyamada.

• Isuzugawa: 09:46

• Ugata (arrival): 10:31

Coming from the south (Kisei Line)

Those coming from the south can take either an ungodly-early local or a limited express, and will change to a Kintetsu express train bound for Toba (鳥羽) at Matsusaka.

• Kii-Nagashima: 06:13
• Misedani: 06:54
• Taki: 07:33
• Matsusaka: Arrives at 7:45. Change to Kintetsu express for Toba which leaves at 08:01.

It arrives in Toba at 08:33. Then change to a local train bound for Kashikojima that leaves at 08:54. It arrives at Ugata at 09:28. Then sit and wait...or you could wait at Matsusaka until 9:10 (maybe leave the station and explore a bit) ad then catch the 9:10 local train that goes all the way to Ugata station.

• Limites Express Train:
• Shingu: 06:21
• Kumanoshi: 06:41
• Owase: 07:08
• Kii-Nagashima: 07:30

• Matsusaka: arrives at 08:26.

Then you could take an 08:56 express bound for Toba (鳥羽), arrive in Toba at 09:28, and switch to a local bound for Kashikojima at 09:32 and get off at Ugata station at 10:05. Or, you could wait until 09:10 at Matsusaka and take the local bound for Kashikojima and ride that all the way to Ugata, arriving at 10:31 with everyone else.

There is a also a local train leaving Shingu at 06:03 (06:48 from Kumanoshi) that arrives in Taki at 09:09. Transfer to the JR Sangu Line and take a train at 9:37 to Iseshi, arriving at 09:57. Transfer to Kintetsu and take a local train at 10:04 bound for Kashikajima and get off at Ugata at 11:01...which is 10 minutes after the bus that everyone will ride leaves the station. The bus isn't until 12:10. I imagine a group of you could split a taxi or see if somebody who is driving there could get you.

There's another local train leaving Shingu at 07:44 (08:21 from Kumanoshi) that will get you into Taki at 11:07. Transfer to the JR Sangu Line and take a train at 11:32 to get to Iseshi, arriving in Iseshi at 11:51. At 12:01, take a local blind for Kashikojima an get off at Ugata station at 13:04. You can catch the 13:30 bus to Koushirahama (国府白浜).

I know it's very inconvenient for you Deep Southerners, but we'd love to see you come out.

Coming from the City of Nara

• Via Local/Express - Yamato-Saidaiji: 07:15 express bound for Kashiharajingūmae (switch to 07:50 express at Yamato-Yagi bound for Ujiyamada)
• Via Limited Express - Yamato-Saidaiji: 08:11 limited express bound for Kashiharajingūmae (get off at Yamatoyagi and switch to a limited express bound for Kashikojima that leaves Yamatoyagi at 8:40. It arrives at Ugata station at 10:34)
