Directions

By Train

First, make your way to Kintetsu-Yokkaichi (近鉄四日市) Station. It's about a five minute walk from this station.

From there:

  1. Take the north exit from the station. You'll go down some stairs and come to a bright area with pillars where straight ahead is the Kintetsu Book Center and you must turn either left or right -- head right.
  2. You'll shortly come to a stop-light leading into a shopping street. Go straight here and enter the covered shopping street.
  3. Walk for a few minutes. Eventually there will be a Sanshi grocery store on the right. When you are immediately in front of this grocery store, turn left.
  4. Side-6 will be right there as soon as you turn left, on the left side of the road.

Review

  • Atmosphere
For anyone in northern Mie who even remotely likes Gundam, or giant robots for that matter, this is a great place to go. The atmosphere is very relaxing and colorful. Models, paraphanelia (sp?), and all other sorts of colorful displays are EVERYWHERE. There is also a little nook of costumes and other photo ops. Tucked away from the bar is a little chill out couches section that while small, is pretty comfy. There are also episodes of the various Gundam series being played at all times. So if it`s quiet, there`s something to keep your attention. AND IT`S CLEAAAAAN! Like new car smell clean!
  • Food and Drink
All food and drink are also named after well known characters/lines/etc, although no less delicious. Some of it was pretty hokey such as "Amuro's Bread and Water", which was exactly that for 300 yen. However the "Ball Takoyaki" was actually quite good, and I usually hate the stuff. The cocktails these people make are heavenly, virgin or not. Aside from beer, I couldn't find much else for spirits on the menu, but I did see quite a few bottles of sake, shochu, etc. Maybe you just need to ask for it. The food is also pretty well priced. Nothing seemed over the top expensive when it came to food or drink. All food is served with complementary Gundam chopstick holders.
  • Staff
Staff dress in uniform from the shows which is kinda cool, and while silly to most people, it's not seriously degrading compared to other themed bars I've visited. The staff are also very VERY friendly! Mr. Aoki, the owner of the bar, is a pretty talkative and friendly fellow. The staff never seemed biased against myself or Karen. They were very helpful when we didn't understand the menu as well. As soon as we told them what our favorite gundams were, we immediately got the model and figure versons placed near us for a "better atmosphere." Overall, a good group of people.
  • Negative Points
It's a narrow bar. I would say there was enough room for about 12 stools, the small rest nook that could hold 3-4 people and then the cosplay/picture op nook that had no seating. A lot of places like the Melting Pot have larger areas to sit in groups and chew the fat or play games, this bar sacrifices physical space for atmosphere which can be a downer to someone who doesn't like the Gundam series.
  • Final Analysis
This is the kind of bar you go to by yourself or with up to 3 friends and soak up the amazing atmosphere, and the great food and drinks. This wouldn't be a good place to take 10 people to for a party unless you reserved well in advance. This is also not the place to go to get carefree drunk. There's a lot of rare and expensive decor in this bar. Lots of glass too. However, there is quite a bit of laughter, conversations, and fun to be had with the staff and other patrons. It's a good, clean, well air-conditioned place to go relax, eat, and drink moderately.
